About Dunamis Fellowship Canada

What we believe

Dunamis Fellowship Canada’s foundation of faith is articulated in the great creeds of the Christian Church universal especially the Apostles Creed and the Nicene Creed.

Out of our historic and theological roots in the Reformed tradition and our special calling to work for the extending of the kingdom of God we affirm the following:

Jesus Christ is the Head of the Church

"He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. 16 For by him all things were created, in the heavens and on the earth, things visible and things invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers; all things have been created through him, and for him. 17 He is before all things, and in him all things are held together. 18 He is the head of the body, the assembly, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. 19 For all the fullness was pleased to dwell in him; 20 and through him to reconcile all things to himself, by him, whether things on the earth, or things in the heavens, having made peace through the blood of his cross."  Colossians 1:15-20

We are Committed to Achieving the "Great Commission"

"18 Jesus came to them and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I commanded you. Behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20

We are Grounded Upon and Guided by the BibleBible

We believe "The holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the word of God, the only rule for faith and obedience." (THE LARGER CATECHISM Q and A Number 3; II Timothy 3:16; Heb. 4:12-14)

This statement of faith does not exhaust the extent of our beliefs. The Bible itself, as the inspired and infallible Word of God that speaks with final authority concerning truth, morality, and the proper conduct of humankind, is the sole and final source of all that we believe.

For purposes of DFC’s faith, doctrine, practice, policy, and discipline, our Board of Directors is DFC’s final interpretive authority on the Bible’s meaning and application

We Believe that Jesus Christ has Sent the Holy Spirit in Order to Accomplish Four Basic Works for the Glory of God:

  • That men and women may be born into the Kingdom God. John 1:12-13, 3:1-8.
  • That those born into the Kingdom are being sanctified by the Holy Spirit dwelling within: their character being transformed to reflect the image of Jesus Christ. II Cor. 3:17-18, Galatians 5:22-23, Romans 12:1-2
  • That Christians may receive power and spiritual gifts to be a witness to Jesus and do the works of Jesus in the world. Acts 1:8. Luke 24:45, I Corinthians 12:4-11, John 14:12-13.
  • That the people of God may be brought into fellowship (Koinonia) with one another and with the Father Son and Holy Spirit. I John 1:1-4, Ephesians 2:19-22, Acts 2:41-47

Jesus Christ is the only way of Salvation

We affirm that Jesus Christ is the way, the truth and the life and the only way to God the Father. We affirm that there is no other name given under heaven by which humanity must be saved. We stand in opposition to any creed, ideology, practice or rituals that promote any other way to God the Father and to salvation other than in Jesus Christ alone.

We are committed to the work of evangelism and mission that is led and empowered by the Holy Spirit, that brings the good news to all near and far that Jesus Christ is the only way of Salvation. Our commitment is that all people, everywhere will hear the word God and may choose life in Jesus Christ.

For those who die without having heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ or have heard and rejected this way of life, we affirm that they are in the hands of a loving God who knows the depths of the human heart. We recognize that while Christians over the ages have had different opinions over the eternal fate of such people, we affirm that this is in the hands of God the Father and that whatever the outcome, it will be only through the Father’s means of Jesus Christ. If judgment it will be through Christ, if life, forgiveness and redemption also through Christ. As for us, our task is to proclaim Jesus Christ to the world as the only way of Salvation.

Statement on the sanctity of human life

We believe that all human life is sacred and created by God in His image. Human life is of inestimable worth in all its dimensions, from conception through natural death. (Ps 139)

We resist as not according to the biblical revelation of the sanctity of human life all ideologies movements and practices that would violate the sanctity of life. We as a ministry and as individuals are committed to the reality that Jesus Christ is the resurrection and the life and that his grace, love and forgiveness extends to all those who have in any way failed to live up to the biblical ideal.

Statement on marriage

We affirm that God created human beings as male and female and that together they reflect the image of God. We affirm the biblical definition that Christian marriage is between one man and one woman. We reject all other definitions of Christian marriage as inconsistent with God’s revealed plans for humanity. We affirm also that we live in a fallen world and we take the reality of sin seriously. However, by the grace of God the Father, the love of Jesus Christ and by the power and guidance of the Holy Spirit we are more and more reflecting the image of Jesus Christ, a process that will only be completed when we meet Jesus face to face. We stand as witnesses to Jesus Christ and as a ministry and as individuals offer Christian fellowship, the love of God, forgiveness, and the transforming healing power of the Holy Spirit to all who have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.

Dunamis has had a powerful effect on Janet both personally; in deepening her relationship with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit but also in helping to clearly identify her gifting and calling;  learning/experiencing  how to fully engage in them.  Most notable is her call to intercession (as a participant) teaching others how to pray, create teams and bring intercession into the local congregation. Janet has been married to Peter Lammers since 1984. They have 4 grown children and 2 grandchildren. Janet’s hobbies include photography (which she calls her happy place) she also enjoys walking in all seasons, snowshoeing, golfing and camping.

His Dunamis experience started in Kelowna in 2003 where he had a dramatic experience with the Holy Spirit which transformed, renewed and invigorated his faith and the sense of God in his life. Since 2006, because he lives close to the Canada/US border, he and his wife Gwen have been attending Dunamis events, including leadership training, in Northwest Washington where they serve on an Intercessory Prayer Team for a Dunamis track in Bellingham, Washington. He is a member at Home Church Langley where he and Gwen lead the Dunamis video series in their home. Paul is actively involved in the graphic design of print materials to advertise events. Rev. Luke Vanderkamp loves Jesus, his wife and four girls while pastoring in a Presbyterian church in Trenton ON. He grew up in the Christian Reformed church, spent time in the Pentecostal church but was predestined to land in the Presbyterian Church while studying at Tyndale Seminary. He is passionate about the Word, preaching the whole counsel of God, inviting people into a living relationship with Jesus through the Holy Spirit and his 1971 Beetle.

 Victor Laarman HS

Rev. Victor Laarman is a child of God, a husband to Chelsea, a father of five beautiful children, and a pastor of a small Christian Reformed church in Collingwood ON. Convinced that success in ministry would not come through his own ingenuity or through finding the ‘right program’, Victor was looking for a better way to pastor a church and reach his neighbours for Christ. When a brochure for Growing the Church in the Power of the Holy Spirit arrived in the mail shortly after starting his pastoral ministry in 2016, he knew he had to attend. Since then, Victor, along with Chelsea, have been learning what it means to join in God’s mission in the power and guidance of the Holy Spirit.

As Regional Dean for DFC she mentors Dunamis teachers and advises track and event directors.

Martin LowerRes

Martin Boardman, Prayer Mobilizer, has been involved with DFC before it was even established. In 2003, Martin attended the congregation that hosted a Dunamis event in Burlington, ON while he was in seminary studying to become ordained in the Christian Reformed Church. After Ordination, Martin took a call to Brooks Alberta, where he served as pastor until the end of 2016. He and his wife Marlene and their teenaged sons continue to make Brooks their home.  Martin has been involved in Mission Outreach Intercessory Prayer, coordinating prayer during the many international mission trips that PRMI has been involved in. Martin's current role as Prayer Mobilizer is to equip intercessors who can cooperate with the Holy Spirit in fulfilling the work Jesus is calling us to do through establishing small groups or cohorts of prayer, who, empowered by the Spirit, can engage in the battle for the advancement of God's kingdom.

 Patti Profile pic

Patti Tan, Office Administrator, was introduced to Dunamis through a video course offering at her church in 2006. This was timely teaching as Patti and her husband Vince were about to go through a life-changing course for the next ten years homeschooling their three children. Patti now has 13+ years of experience in Alternative Education and has a small business guiding families in working through the reasons for homeschooling (or not) and how to make things work in their particular situations. Her focus is primarily on children with learning issues such as ADHD, Autism or Dyslexia or other issues that often hide giftedness. Just before accepting the position with Dunamis, Patti, was and is,  working diligently through personal healing with healing prayer, visions, dreams, journal entries and art work. Since becoming administrator, Patti has attended several Dunamis events in Michigan, Guelph and North Carolina, gathering community around herself and continuing to heal in her spirit. The Dunamis way of doing things fits very well with her mindset of being a life-long learner.
